Jesus Christ, true God, true man: That Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. He lived a sinless life and died for our sins according to the Scriptures – as a representative, substitutionary and complete sacrifice. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and is today our High Priest and Advocate. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. His sovereign mercy and grace: That man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but spiritual death, which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, lost, without hope, except in His sovereign mercy and grace. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honour him. (John 12:25-26)
